MADY DAENS was born in Belgium and moved to Australia in 1965. She has exhibited in Sydney (Macquarie Galleries), Canberra, Adelaide (Die Gallery), Perth (Churchill Gallery Perth Festival), Yass (Mark Shane Gallery), Orange (Raffins Gallery), Brussels (Centre Cultral solo show), California and London. Many of her paintings were sold overseas. Intrigued by the story of Ned Kelly, she created a series of painting around the subject with bold colours and a geometric form based on Ned Kelly's helmet. Laurie Knott described her work in the Sunday Times-Perth as, "Mady Daens conjures up decorative, romantic, idyllic views, often from a diced foreground, of balconies, boats, bridges and bouquets. Colour is flat and regimented to fit with appealing draughtmanship. Something 'old world' emanates from these paintings. Mady Daens establishes a happy style weaving a somewhat primitive, fairytale atmosphere into her work."
