Rendle Wood photo

RENDLE WOOD was born in Plymouth, Devon. After attending Plymouth College of Technology Wood went to the local School of Art under Frederick Shelley and Edinburgh College of Art with David Foggie. His technique for outlining subjects probably came from his time with Foggie. He became a leading light in the Ulster Art Society from 1925 to 1930, during which time he became secretary. At this time he became close friends with Paul Nietzsche about whom very little is known. Wood was an active member of the National Society of Painters, Sculptures and Engravers until 1966. He was also a member of the St Ives and Plymouth Societies of Artists and the St Mawes Group. He was honorary secretary of Ulster Arts Club between 1925-30 and worked as fine art manager for the Pollock Gallery, Belfast, also being hon. secretary and a member of Ulster Academy of Arts.
